“ I'd rate Van Loi II around 3.5 to 4 stars. I went on a Friday night, and while it wasn't packed, the service was a bit slow. It took about 15 minutes for a waiter to take our order and bring drinks, then another 20-25 minutes for the food to arrive. I ordered the pho, and while the broth had good flavor, it was lukewarm--almost like it had been sitting out before being brought to the table, which was a little disappointing. On a separate visit, I tried the roasted duck, and it was fantastic--well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. I'd definitely return, but just a heads-up that service can be hit or miss. Also, parking isn't the best, so be prepared for that! ”
“ Visited around 1pm on a Saturday and it's a small place, but we're able to be seated right away for the 5 of us. I ordered a whole roasted duck for all of us to share in addition to whatever else they ordered. The duck didn't look as big as we hoped, but it was enough for us to pick at while eating our main entree. Greasy, but delicious! I also ordered shrimp pork salad rolls which were delicious by itself and young coconut juice as my drink which was super refreshing! Overall, I enjoyed my time here with my family with excellent food. Pricey, but was worth the authenticity. ”
“ Pho tai gan sach #26. on the menu... it's rare cooked beef, tendon, and tripe. The broth is so freaking good. First of all the service was excellent. We got seated immediately and the place was nearly full. The food is the best...started with some Shrimp pork salad spring rolls, then we ordered whole roasted duck. It was delicious indeed. Wash it down with some Thai tea...I was in heaven. Ambiance was nice and the price total was reasonable. My daughter treated us out for lunch today. I highly recommend this Vietnamese Restaurant here in beautiful Greensboro, NC. Van Loi II. Thank you crew for our family bonding. ”
“ Food is fantastic. Have never had a bad dish here! Service can be a little slow and at their own pace, which can be frustrating. It is a little cramped and often quite loud when it is busy. Do not come on Sunday before 2pm. it is an absolute madhouse #69 BBQ is one of many of my favorites. ”
“ Van Loi II has a lot of potential. The atmosphere is very hole in the wall, but with a couple tweaks to the layout and a few small upgrades, it has the potential to become quite refined. Their pho and bun bo hue soups are amazing, flavourful, and fresh. However, their menu has some misses. My friend ordered the roast pork and was disappointed about how chewy and overcooked it was. Service was prompt and attentive. Overall, this restaurant shows a lot of promise! ”
“ This is some seriously good stuff. The restaurant was full at midafternoon in a weekday. That says a lot. Everything we ordered was top-notch and none of it was dumbed down for non-Asians. I can quibble and say the some of the sauces and glazes were a little too sweet but the rice was (properly) broken rice and the bun rieu had the requisite pig's blood. Service is just fine and the younger employees are native English speakers so there are no communication problems. Atmosphere isn't too appealing but you're not coming here for vibes. You're coming for some damn fine authentic Vietnamese food and that's what you'll get. Generous servings and good value, too. Oh, and tip of the hat to the reviewer who noted that the restaurant is hidden behind the NAPA parts store. ”
“ We walked in to dine in. A lady shouted dine in or take out. I said dine in to the lady who asked. She went and did something else and I was left standing there. I looked over and a lady was standing at a table. No one said follow her. I just caught a glance of her staring at me. I pointed at myself like is that for us? She nodded. She literally dropped some menus off on the table and left. She didn't stick around for the drink order. I was like ohhh kay. So the service isn't that friendly, but the food has to be. She came back about 3-4 mins later and asked what we wanted to order. I ordered the shrimp fried rice (I know boring) and eggs rolls. The food came within 10 mins. The egg rolls were greasy and burnt. They weren't that good. The shrimp fried rice was pretty good. I was extremely full after eating about half. I was nervous about the service because about 30 people came in to dine at the same time within 5 mins of getting my food. The waitress came around the time I was finishing up to replenish my water. I asked for the check and paid as soon as another lady brought it. I wanted to make sure I didn't get forgotten. I think I would return. I would probably try pho next time. Now that I know what to expect service wise...it won't throw me for a loop. Was this the best experience, probably not. Food was quick and ok. ”
“ This is my friend's favorite place to go for Pho. She took me here last year and then again 2 weeks ago. She said she's craving for Pho, so after shopping we went here. I agree with her! Pho here is delicious! The broth's very flavorful. During our first visit, I ordered a whole roasted duck to go. My husband and I loves roasted duck and was extremely happy when I brought one home! My friend tried bubble tea for the first time. She asked the server for recommendation and the server said that taro's her favorite. So my friend ordered one and she liked it a LOT!! I ordered green tea. It didn't take long for our order to arrive. It was a generous amount of serving. To my surprise, I devoured mine! Lol My friend couldn't finish hers, so she got the leftover to go. The restaurant is clean and the interior is typical of a Vietnamese restaurant. Next time I want to try the taro bubble tea. ”
“ Great Chinese bbq. We ordered whole roast duck, roast pork, bbq pork, pig stomach and beef tripe from the BBQ take out while waiting for our Vietnamese food. The raw beef and flank Phonhad a wonderfully flavorful and yet clear broth. Also we ordered the s X Crispy quail and egg rolls. The quail came with a delicious mixed salt and not too dry even though they were fried to a crisp. The egg rolls had an unexpected filling of minced pork, glass noodles and taro (I think). All delicious. Service was good The server asked if I want to put my takeout bbq on the same bill as our dinner. We didn't think much about that but if I hadn't paid attention, I would have tipped them on the total instead of the dinner service . Not a big deal but we had about $100 of bbq and just $48 of meal. ”
“ I have always liked the food at this total hole-in-the-wall restaurant, which offers some of the very best, and most varied, Vietnamese food in the entire Triad. Actually, it is two restaurants in one as it shares a spot with a Chinese BBQ spot (off to the right side, strictly for take-out) which also has some great food item, including their BBQ PORK, Roasted Duck and half a small pig - I can recommend all three items. This spot is in a worn strip center, hidden from the street because it is behind a Napa Auto store, GPS will be your friend if this is your first visit. Do not let the dumpiness deter you from eating here, much of the food here is excellent (rivals Pho Hien Vuong in food quality if not ambiance), and the variety exceeds any other such restaurant in the area. Interestingly enough, though the menu is broad, it does not include the famous Vietnamese sandwich, the Bahn Mi - probably revolves around the need for great bread. Over the seven or eight years I've eaten here I've tried large number of menu items starting with the Pho. The version I prefer is with rare beef and flank. The broth has a rich beef flavor (richer than most I've tasted, and a bit less spicy), the meat is plentiful, the noodles sometimes are a bit less than desirable. Occasionally, the toppings for the Pho can be a bit dated, but usually they are acceptable. Along the way I have sampled several of the Roast Pork dishes (Crispy Pork, Pork Chops with Rice, and Pork and Pork Skin with Rice are especially nice). Also Roast Chicken, Roast Quail appetizer, Roast Duck (very nicely laquered & served with pickled carrots, cucumbers, and daikon), and Rice Noodles with Pork Sausage. I would recommend any and all of these dishes. The prices here are reasonable especially when you factor in the large serving sizes of most items. The fly in the ointment here is the service - it is a problem more times than not, so much so that I almost always get the food as take out now! It is a combination of the amount of diners during peak periods and the lack of focus of the wait staff, which seems an on going problem here. All in all, the food here is most often good enough and varied enough to overcome the occasional stone in your shoe! pictures - 2/1/2019 ”
